Free Goomba Amigurumi and Christmas Boot Crochet Pattern

I love these goofy guys from the Mario series. I especially love how much more personality they have in Mario Odyssey, stacking them up to see the girl goombas, etc. Too cute! So I made some goomba stacks of my own, as well as a Christmas Boot (throwback to the green boot from NES Mario games).
Without further ado, here's a free pattern!

Goomba and Christmas Boot/Stocking

Goomba Body
Using F 3.75 hook

In brown yarn

Round 1) 6 sc in mc

Round 2) Inc in every stitch (12)

Round 3) Sc around (12)

Round 4) Inc, sc 5, inc, sc 5 (14)

Round 5) Inc, sc 6, inc, sc 6 (16)

Round 6) Sc around (16)

Round 7) *Sc, inc* around (24)

Round 8) Sc around (24)

Round 9) Sc around (24)

Round 10) *sc dec* around (18)

Place safety eyes through circles of cut white felt, snap them on, if desired. If embroidering or felting eyes, disregard.

Round 11) Dec every stitch (9)

Stuff goomba head, we’re moving onto the stem. Do not overstuff, bottom should be somewhat flat, not too rounded.

Switch to cream yearn

Round 12) Sc in back loops only

Round 13) Inc, sc 3, inc, sc 4 (11)

Round 14) Sc around

Stuff stem

Round 15) Sc 1, then dec 5 times (6)

Fasten off, weave tail of yarn through last rounds front loops, pull tight. I thread my yarn through the middle of the “stem”, up through the top of the goombas head, pull tight, snip the yarn, then let the tail of the yarn get “sucked” back into the goomba head. (Just a way to hide the yarn tail and keep your goomba from looking stretched out.)

Feet (Make two)
In dark brown yarn

Round 1) 6 sc in mc (6)

Round 1) sc around (6)

Round 3) 1 sc, stop, fasten off and leave tail of yarn

Take the foot you have made, and push it so that the mc will be the tip of their shoe, pressing the circle in half. Sew onto edge of goomba stem with 6 stitches, one for every sc. Do not stuff.

Cut a small circle of tan felt and hot glue to bottom of feet. You may crochet a small circle as well, it just made my goombas too bulky and they wouldn’t stand up unassisted.
At the widest part of the goomba, sew a long straight mouth. Add tiny felt triangles to each side for teeth. I used the below image of a goomba to trace the eye pupils and eyebrows onto heat transfer vinyl and adhered it to my goomba that way. Alternatively, you can use felt, fabric pens + fabric (I don’t recommend fabric pens on amigurumi!!), embroidery, etc. Without my silhouette machine, I’d have just done safety eyes and cut felt eyebrows and called it a day.

Christmas Boot

With red yarn and 4.5 mm hook

Chain 7

Round 1) Inc in first chain, sc 4, inc, turn chain and start down the other side, inc, 4sc, inc in last chain. (16)

Round 2) Inc in first stitch, sc 6, inc, inc, sc 6, inc in last (20)

Round 3) Inc in first stitch, sc 4, inc, sc 3, inc, inc, sc 3, inc, sc 4, inc (26)

Round 4) Inc in first stitch, sc 5, inc, sc 5, 2 inc, sc 5, inc, sc 5, inc in last stitch (32)

Round 5) Sc around

Round 6) Sc around

Round 7) 8 sc, chain 6, reconnect chain to boot by skipping 13 stitches and reconnecting with a sc, sc 4. (18)
This is now the leg part of the boot. Ignore the open toe for now.

Round 8) Sc around (25)

Change to white yarn, turn. This way, when you fold the white part down, the nice, “right” side is showing. I switched to hdc for this part, but you can keep doing sc, just double the amount of rounds needed.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Go back to that open toe, reconnect with a slip stitch where you skipped 13

Round 1) *Sc 2, dec* four times, sc in last three (15)

Round 2) *Dec, sc* five times (10)

Round 3) Dec every stitch (5)
Fasten off, leave a tail, weave through front loops of remaining stitches with yarn needle, pull tight, tie off and hide tail inside stocking (or weave in)
