Sprouties

I made some little plant amigurumis for a baby set I'm working on. I can't use safety eyes, so I think the embroidered eyes are the way to go! I love their nubby little legs. I have two more sprouties to post tomorrow.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Fluffy Psyduck Plush and Slippers

Psyduck has always been my favorite Pokemon. Heck, ducks have always been my favorite animal. I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally crochet an amigurumi of Psyduck. I think seeing Detective Pikachu put me finally over the edge and I needed more Psyduck in my life. Such a cutie.

Review: Simple Round Back Newborn Baby & Cocoon

I had a request for a baby bonnet and cocoon recently. After considering a lot of free patterns on ravelry, my customer chose the "Simple Sound Back Newborn Bonnet" by Aimee Collins. It's a darling pattern, simple, unisex, and easy.

BYU Baby Sneakers

Everytime I turn around, another friend is having a baby! I'm very behind on the homemade baby gifts, but I just finished these BYU high top baby sneakers.

All the Christmas Projects

I don't even know how to coherently relate each item to the next. We have from penguins to ballet slippers, I've been busy making them all!

Ghost Applique Pattern

I have a new pattern! It's a simple, but fun one.

These ghost appliques whip up quick. I used one on Emmy's seed stitch headband, but I've been making more while watching spooky movies to put on gift bags, cards, treat plates, and even maybe make a whole banner of them.

Dinosaur Lovey Blanket

More friends having babies = more crocheted gifts.
This lovey blanket is for a baby boy. I knew a full on crocheted blanket would probably never be used by him, so a lovey was my compromise. A squishy and soft stegosaurus sits in the middle of the granny square blanket.

Amish Puzzle Ball

I am ALL about this puzzle ball. The pattern is from Look At What I Made, I highly recommend looking around at her website--it's full of gems like these.
Anyways, my friend is having a baby and this ball will be a perfect toy for him to play with.

Bulbasaur

I've gained two nephews already this year! They sure are cute, and babies mean baby gifts. Which means forcing people to enjoy my hobby by crocheting said gifts.

Oh Whale!

Whales! One of my favorite projects to see on pinterest is crocheted ocean life. Jellyfish, whales, squids, porpoises, seals--they make me happy. My friend's little baby has the colors navy, gold, and white as their nursery theme. So I made this whale keeping that in mind.

My Neighbor Totoro Pattern

I have another pattern to share!
My Neighbor Totoro is a cute film by Hayao Miyazaki. Totoros are magical rabbit like creatures that help things grow and just do cute mythical animal stuff. I first watched this movie in 5th grade and thought it was cute. Nowadays, all I can think about is how much my mother-in-law hates that movie because "the little girl screams too much!" It's true!

Crocheting gifts and working on patterns!

I'm in progress with a new aspect of crochet--writing patterns. I've been amazed at how much harder it is to write down and explain a pattern than to just go go go and make something. I hope to have a Valentine's themed amigurumi up by next week, and then a cute spring critter after that. That Valentine's one is KILLING me though--I have three prototypes that are looking at me sadly from my crochet bag with wonky parts and pieces. But I'll keep trying, because I sketched it up and thought it was cute :)

Here are some projects I finished:

Another Toadette! My sister asked me to make her one for her birthday. I think it turned out alright, but now that I've seen Toad's Treasure Tracker, I wish I had made her in that cute khaki outfit! Her feet have been weighted so that she can stand on her own.

A friend of mine had a cute, chubby baby in the fall and I made him a hat and shoes. Unfortunately, I gave it so late I don't think he could wear it... Oh well, it's the thought that counts! I also used a "crab stitch" for the finish. I like it, but it took me forever to figure it out!

Alright, alright, those Valentine headbands DO come in traditional colors, too.
And I forgot to post this proof that Emmy WILL wear some things I crochet!! Don't mind that I'm holding her hand away from pulling it off. :)

Back to the drawing board.

Conversation Heart Headbands

My older brother is infamous for his love of conversation hearts. It has to be a certain brand and it has to be the small ones, but when he has a bag of them he will eat.them.all. He would eat them all year round if he could. This worked to my advantage on Valentine's day, as I would only eat the orange ones (they tasted the least like chalk?). So I had some tradeable goods for his fun dips and pixie sticks.

So when I think of Valentine's day, as much as I love red and hot pink, I love the pastel colors that remind me of my sugar filled childhood.

These headbands are simple, but cute. I like that they are a bit daintier than other headbands I've made. I can do them in any color, but these were the ones I liked the best. As for my favorite orange flavor--the color yarn for those would be too peachy, so I stuck with these.

Everything was pretty simple--I actually just chained a length of yarn, then applied shell edging around the whole thing, like I would on a blanket. It gives it a nice touch of stretch.

As for the hearts, can you tell I enjoyed making them? There are tons of resources online to make hearts, I hope to try some of the more complicated ones, but these are simply:
Magic circle (All About Ami's  magic circle tutorial)
Chain 3
3 triple crochet into circle,
3 double crochet into circle,
1 triple crochet into circle,
3 double crochet into circle,
3 triple crochet into circle,
chain three,
slip stitch into circle, fasten off.
Pull the original thread tight and knot it and VOILA you are a heart making MACHINE!

Have fun!
Email me at thecraftzilla@gmail.com or message me on The Craftzilla's facebook page to ask about having a headbands made for you! I'm hoping to get these on the Etsy store soon. :)

Singing is Better with Puppets!

I've got a post full of puppets today! I'm still discombobulated from the holidays. I found myself searching for Christmas carols on the radio. I wasn't ready this year, it went by too fast! But oh well, time to get back into the swing of things.

While my daughter will have nothing to do with any accessories I make her, she LOVES puppets.
I made her a brand new dragon puppet for Christmas. He's a goofy looking guy--in fact, Garth made me give him teeth because he "looked embarrassing" without them. Way to stick up for the guy.

No more cold feet!

You know what is really sad? Cold baby feet. They can't tell you they need a pair of socks, pronto! Or that the blanket doesn't quite cover their toes. Which is why crochet baby footwear is one of my favorite gifts to give to new babies. Also because they take a lot less time than blankets to make.

Crochet Your Costume - Roman Helmet

I regularly harass my friends with hat-wearing babies for something I can make them. Seriously, it fuels some deep need in me to frequently make and give away crocheted baby items just so I can feel fulfilled, rather than have it lay discarded in the closet by my daughter. So when one of my college besties mentioned their little boy was going to be a Roman soldier for Halloween, I had to leap at the opportunity.

Moooove over, Panda Hat, it's cow's turn

I was supposed to make another baby panda hat for a customer, and I was speeding right along with it. I finished the base and then was informed that the baby was a 10 POUNDER newborn.
Not a cow, but relevant enough

Well, the newborn hat I just crocheted was not going to fit on this baby. I didn't want to let it go to the "forever discontinued project" pile (it's grown too much) so I brainstormed on what other white and black animals(Note: Never Google Image search that) I could make.
And thusly, I decided on a cute cow hat!
Is Moo-Cow obnoxious? Probably >_<

When I was in 5th grade, I was introduced to the game "Harvest Moon 64". It was amazing! You ran a farm, had cute animals you could name and brush, and you could get married and have little babies and a whole homestead! It was a very cutesy game, but I loved it! Unfortunately, in 8th grade when I moved to the country, I discovered country life wasn't as cutesy as the game made it. Oh well!

So shiny and clean--not at all accurate.
Apparently, you have to actually sweat to grow anything, animals were smelly, and there are bugs--lots of them. So I'll just stick to the video game if I ever feel some long winded country life nostalgia hit. But gosh, those cows are cute. (And real life cows are cute too---just after one year in FFA you feel too guilty to ever look at a cow again...)
Awww--vegetarian for life! (Or until dinner...)
It's a super soft hat with braided tassels (I still get nervous about flimsy strings around newborns, so these are short and thick!) The details were made with embroidery thread and it took me 7 times to get the eyes right.
Moo cow newborn hat is only $12.00 and can be shipped. Look for it soon on my etsy shop or message The Craftzilla on Facebook!

Every baby needs a panda hat, right?

Confession: Crocheting hats in the summer feels very rebellious. I must admit that with the 107 degree weather we recently had, crocheting ANYTHING feels kind of...stupid. But it's totally okay if it's something for a baby! Enter--The Panda Hat!

These shoes were made for crawling~

What's cuter than little baby feet?
Nothing!
But adorning them with soft mock ups of shoes just enhances their natural cuteness.
And what's shoes without accessories?? Ok, so I can count the pairs of shoes I own on one hand, and I'm not that trendy, but when it comes to dressing up babies I turn into dream house Barbie. (I'm like an onion, I have layers--most of them are nerdy but there is a girly girl layer too!)
